THREE BASIC STEPS IN PREPARING FOR AN INTERVIEW
RESEARCH THE JOB/COMPANY
- Familiarize yourself with the company or business - be well prepared and you will be able to ask intelligent questions
- Contact the company and ask if they have information which describes their type of business
- Prepare a list of questions to ask in the interview
- Study the job description (advertisement) and consider all the skills and personal qualities that you will need to perform effectively
PREPARE A RESUME
- Your resume should be long enough to establish what you have to offer and short enough to entice the reader to want to know more; don't let anyone tell you that you should not have more than one page
- Sell yourself in the resume ~ list positives, avoid negatives; list strengths, avoid weaknesses; list skills and knowledge; list educational background; list hobbies and interests; DO NOT forget to list your name, address, and telephone number in a conspicuous place; and list at least three (3) references (very important)
- Take two (2) copies of your resume to the job interview
PSYCH YOURSELF UP
- By being totally prepared for the interview, you can mentally psych yourself up
- An enthusiastic individual who displays a sincere interest in the position, and appears to be highly motivated and excited about the position will come across in an interview better than an individual who is lethargic with an "I don't care, laid-back" sort of attitude
